Construction Day 2026

We had a great group on the bus for this year’s Construction Day! We moved the event from the traditional early August to early June, but it was still hot!

We spent the morning in Nashua where we enjoyed a tour of Pennichuck’s treatment plant as well as two historical buildings before seeing the construction of a new chemical building on the grounds. We then traveled to Derry where we visited the site of a tank renovation. The tank is being modified to reform monochloramine residuals to help manage nitrification. The tank will also be altered to add a second fill line that comes in through the top of the tank to fill from a high-pressure zone that is connected to Manchester Water Works. This is a challenging project because the tank cannot be taken out of service. This project is one of three active construction contracts to increase flow into Derry to increase capacity to serve downstream communities.

Thank you to our host communities – Pennichuck Water and the Town of Derry. We enjoyed excellent presentations from the staff at Pennichuck, and a team of presenters at the tank representing Derry Public Works, Underwood Engineers, HAWSCO, DN Tanks, and IXOM.

Thank you to our sponsors – Underwood Engineers for underwriting the cost of the bus again this year, and to CDM Smith and DN Tanks for covering the cost of food and beverages for the day!
