New PFAS Health Advisories – June 15, 2022
The EPA has just released new interim goals for selected PFAS compounds (PFOA and PFOS) in drinking water. These values only consider potential health impacts, and do not include critical factors such as laboratory detection limits, and treatment feasibility and cost. For example, EPA’s interim goals are substantially lower than analytical methods can reliably detect their presence. In addition, PFAS and other man-made contaminants come from widespread and prolonged public use and disposal – drinking water utilities are treating problems not of their making. In short, we are all responsible for finding solutions to contamination created by our modern lifestyle.
The NH Water Works Association will continue to work closely with State and federal regulators and legislators, drinking water managers, and with the general public to ensure a dependable supply of safe and affordable drinking water.
