This 5-day exam prep course has been developed with assistance from our colleagues at New England Water Works Association. The training facility is centrally located and will be used to show students water treatment processes discussed in the classroom. Class size limited to 20 students.
Instruction will be based on ABC Need-to-Know criteria for Grade 2 Treatment. We will use the 2016 AWWA Water System Operator Grade 2 – Water Treatment manual for class assignments. Copies of this manual, along with printed copies of class syllabus, instructional slides, NTK criteria, ABC formula sheets, and links to online resources are included with course registration. Our key goal is to ensure student skill and confidence with math and test-taking concepts. Topics covered during the five-day program include:
Day 1 – Introduction and Exam Overview, Solving Math Problems, Hydraulics, Chemistry, Treatment and Source Water Introductions, Water Operator Responsibilities, State and Federal Regulations Groundwater and Wells, Hydrologic Cycle and Surface Water Reservoirs, Source Water Contamination Issues, Taste and Odor
Day 2 – Filtration Processes, Coagulation and Flocculation, Settling and Sedimentation, Filtration, Filter Maintenance, More Filtration Methods, Safety
Day 3 – Chlorine Disinfection (Contact Time, Breakpoint Chlorination, DBPs), Chemical Feeding, Water Operator Responsibilities, State and Federal Regulations
Day 4 – Iron and Manganese, Corrosion Control and Treatment, Fluoridation, Flow Measurement, Instrumentation and Control (SCADA), Electricity, Motors and Pumps, Administration, State and Federal Regulations
Day 5 – Water Quality Testing, Alkalinity and Hardness, Water Softening, pH, Turbidity, Bacteria, Review Course’s Assignments
Passing the Grade 2 certification exams is a tough and important professional milestone – our experienced program development team understands the key challenges and has created a curriculum that blends practical knowledge with test-taking skills. Our goal is to substantially increase exam passing rates for NH Operators.
